Oct 17, 2026

Clad in traditional attire and colourful masks, performers bring Hindu deities to life during the five-day Sikali Jatra in Khokana, Nepal. Dedicated to Goddess Shikali, the festival features tantric rituals and traditional masked dances depicting 14 deities. The medieval Newa heritage village celebrates Sikali Jatra as an alternative to Dashain. Locals believe the goddess protects the community from misfortunes and calamities. The festival culminates on Fulpati, when the goddess is carried through the village in a wooden chariot. The celebrations also feature traditional dances inspired by Hindu mythology and mark a festive period for farmers following the harvest season. Sikali Jatra reflects Khokana’s rich religious traditions and centuries-old cultural heritage.
