India and South Korea have significant potential to deepen cooperation in shipbuilding, shipping and maritime logistics, according to Kyunghoon Kim, Head of the India and South Asia Team at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). With South Korea’s global expertise in shipbuilding, maritime research, port operations and technical training, the partnership could support India’s expanding maritime ambitions under Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. Kim highlights how India’s rapidly growing economy and trade will drive demand for maritime transport, creating opportunities for South Korean shipbuilders to help strengthen India’s shipbuilding capabilities and maritime infrastructure. He also points to the India–South Korea Comprehensive Framework for Partnership in Shipbuilding, Shipping and Maritime Logistics as an important foundation for mutually beneficial cooperation.
