Sudhanshu Trivedi blasts ‘emergency’ narrative over CJP protest crackdown against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

New Delhi, October 12, 2026 (ANI): BJP MP and National Spokesperson, Sudhanshu Trivedi countered the Opposition’s accusation on Modi Government of imposing “undeclared emergency” in the National Capital to suppress the protests against the SIR process demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Sudhanshu Trivedi said, “People speak of the 'Emergency'. If barricades are set up within a one-kilometre radius, some perceive it as an 'Emergency.' I feel that the current generation does not truly know what it was like; we have only heard stories, so it is worth recalling the facts. Do you know what the Emergency actually entailed? Today, you can sit here and say whatever you please about the Prime Minister—even making baseless or absurd remarks. During the Emergency, there was a provision known as the DIR (Defence of India Rules). If, in a public place, you merely stated that the Indira Gandhi government ought to be removed, you would be thrown into jail; furthermore, you could neither apply for bail nor approach the court... The genesis lies in the fact that, for the past year and a half to two years, India has consistently been the fastest-growing economy among all major global economies. We are steadily moving forward with a growth rate of 7 to 7.8 per cent. We are at the forefront of modern technology. We rank number one globally in digital transactions.”
