India sends Buddha relics of Sariputta-Moggallana from Delhi to Mongolia for 10-day public display

New Delhi, May 30, 2026 (ANI): The sacred relics of Lord Buddha’s two chief disciples, Arahant Sariputta and Arahant Maha Moggallana, depart from the National Museum in New Delhi to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to be publicly exhibited at the Gandan Tegchenling Monastery from June 1 to June 10. Shakil Siddiqui, Editor-in-Chief at Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka, Sanchi centre, says, “The holy relics of Sariputta and Moggallana, two chief disciples of Lord Buddha, are going on their second journey to Mongolia. The first journey was to Thailand... The main function will start from the day after tomorow... After the veneration, they will remain there for 10 days. We are expecting a lot of people to come and see the relics... This will fetch a historical bond between Mongolia and India..."
