November 5, 2026 (ANI): The government’s decision to extend the Agniveer service tenure by two years has been widely welcomed by military veterans and former service chiefs. Retired Major (Dr.) Mohammed Ali Shah described it as a brilliant decision that would boost the morale of the armed forces and the nation, while Lt Gen (Retd.) DP Pandey termed it a positive and well-considered step in refining the scheme. Former Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi (Retd.) called the move a “Diwali gift” for Agniveers and their families, describing it as a win-win situation that would allow trained personnel to serve the armed forces for two additional years. Rear Admiral Guninder Singh Jawanda (Retd.) also welcomed the decision, saying the revised framework reflects a thoughtful review based on the experience gained during the scheme’s initial four years.
