Untold Story: Myanmar refugees in Mizoram pin hope on state elections for better life

Aizawl (Mizoram), Nov 04: With Mizoram sharing a 510-km porous border with Myanmar, more than 33,000 people are seeking refuge in Mizoram. These refugees crossed the border to escape violence after a military coup in Myanmar. Refugees are currently staying in tin-roofed makeshift houses with bamboo walls, and are facing massive problems of water and electricity. The refugees have hopes from the state elections as political parties have promised benefits to them in their manifesto. The ruling Mizo National Front has promised in its manifesto to unite the Zofa or people belonging to Zo community under one administration.
