SHOCKING! Deadly fire at Cuttack Hospital claims 10 lives: Odisha CM announces ₹25 Lakh Ex-Gratia

Cuttack (Odisha), March 16, 2026 (ANI): A deadly fire at the trauma care ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, claimed the lives of 10 patients. The fire, which occurred in the early hours of March 16, 2026, also left at least 11 hospital staff members injured. According to officials, the fire broke out between 2:30 am and 3:00 am in the trauma care ICU. Multiple fire engines rushed to the hospital, and emergency teams worked to control the blaze and evacuate patients. In total, 23 patients were shifted to other departments and wards as part of the emergency evacuation. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited the site, ordered a judicial probe, and directed the safe shifting of patients. The CM also announced an ex-gratia of ₹25 lakh from the CMRF for the next of kin of each deceased.
