India’s 80th Independence Day Celebrated in Kathmandu, Strengthening Bonds of Friendship with Nepal

India’s 80th Independence Day was celebrated at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu with participation from the Indian community, friends of India in Nepal, Embassy officials and their families. The Ambassador honoured the widows and next of kin of 11 deceased Indian Armed Forces personnel, handing over Army Group Insurance Fund cheques worth NRs 8.2 crore. Winners of various competitions were also felicitated, while book grants were announced for 22 educational institutions and libraries across seven provinces. Cultural performances and patriotic songs marked the occasion. Nepalese President Ram Chandra Paudel, the Prime Minister’s Office and Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal extended greetings, highlighting the strong historical, cultural and civilisational ties between India and Nepal and expressing hope for deeper friendship and cooperation.
