‘Historic Day for India's Semicon Industry’, Business leaders hail first Made-in-India chip 'Vikram'

New Delhi, September 02, 2025 (ANI): India marked a major milestone in its semiconductor journey with the unveiling of the first Made-in-India chip, 'Vikram', earning praise from business and academic leaders both domestically and internationally. Amit Sharma, MD & CEO of Tata Consulting Engineers, called it "a moment of pride," highlighting the rapid progress under the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM). “There is big momentum and great commitment. With projects across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, we’re on track to achieve our goals even earlier than expected,” he said. Kyle Squires, Dean of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, emphasized the significance of this milestone for global collaboration. “India's move into manufacturing will boost supply chain resilience and create more opportunities for joint research and industry partnerships,” he noted. Echoing this, David Wahls, Executive Director at the same institution, lauded India's efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The ecosystem is developing rapidly, from attracting partners to building talent pipelines, India is taking all the right steps to ensure growth in semiconductors,” he said.
