Gujarat Police K9 Unit Becomes More Lethal: ‘Super Dogs’ Against Terror & Drugs
Mar 25, 2026
Gujarat Police is strengthening its operations with a new generation of highly trained K9 units, known as ‘super dogs,’ designed to tackle terrorism, narcotics, and explosives with precision. Around 200 dogs have been trained using advanced, technology-driven and reward-based methods, making them more efficient in the field. These dogs perform dual roles, including assault and explosive detection, and work closely with commando units in high-risk situations. They can track suspects, detect bombs, and respond to silent commands. Specialized units, including narcotics, tracker, and newly introduced alcohol detection dogs, are enhancing crime-solving capabilities. The force has also launched its own breeding program to ensure quality and reduce costs, while retired dogs are cared for at a dedicated facility, boosting overall policing effectiveness.
