Eid-ul-Adha 2026: Preparation in full swing in Kashmir despite high prices

May 24, 2026

Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha 2026, also known as Bakra Eid, markets across Kashmir are witnessing strong activity in the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals despite rising inflation and economic pressure. The festival, which will be observed on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, sees people across the valley buying sheep and goats according to their budgets and preferences. This year, buyers are reportedly more budget-conscious due to the impact of global economic conditions, including inflation influenced by international conflicts and rising fuel prices, which have increased transport and overall market costs. Despite these challenges, the spirit of Eid remains strong. Major animal markets, especially the Eid Gah ground in Srinagar, are witnessing heavy footfall as people from different parts of the valley gather to purchase livestock. Local breeders and traders are actively involved in supplying quality sheep and goats to meet the growing demand.
