BJP's Smriti Irani slams Rahul Gandhi over Parliament Street PS protest, calls it 'political gain'

Aug 22, 2026

New Delhi, August 22, 2026 (ANI): BJP National General Secretary Smriti Irani criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for staging a protest outside the Parliament Street Police Station, alleging he sought political gains despite an investigation already being underway into Sahil Lochab’s complaint over injuries sustained during a July 20 student protest. Irani said the ongoing probe showed that authorities had already taken cognisance of the matter and accused Gandhi of questioning the authority of courts, Parliament and law-enforcement agencies. She also questioned whether Gandhi had sought investigations into alleged attacks on security forces and disrespect towards the Army. Irani, who was recently appointed BJP National General Secretary, thanked the party leadership for its trust, calling the elevation a significant moment in her organisational journey.
