BHU claims to discover new technology to test coronavirus

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 31 (ANI): Banaras Hindu University’s Department of Molecular and Human Genetics claimed it has discovered a new technology to test coronavirus to give accurate results in 5-6 hours. While speaking to ANI, the Associate Professor of Dept of Molecular and Human Genetics, Dr Geeta Rai said, “We have tried to target a protein sequence present only in COVID-19 and not present in any other viral strain. We are hopeful when testing is done it will only detect COVID-19 presence, so there will be less chance of false detection.” “This has been developed by an all women team of Dolly Das, Khushbupriya, Hiral Thakar and me. We filed a patent on March 27. It will be successful only when it is validated by National Institute of Virology (NIV) after which it has to be approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR),” she added.
