8 coaching centres sealed as VDA Intensifies Safety Checks in Varanasi after Lucknow Aliganj fire

Varanasi (UP), June 24 2026 (ANI): Several coaching institutes sealed during enforcement drive by Varanasi Development Authority to prevent fire incidents. Varanasi Development Authority Vice Chairman Purna Borah says, “Wherever the children study, whether it is a library or a coaching centre, the Varanasi Development Authority runs campaigns from time to time, in accordance with the direction of the government… So a campaign of this is going on in two steps in different zones, for the next fifteen days, we are surveying all the PG, guest houses, hostels, group housing, through Google Forms, so that we can find out what activities are being conducted there in contrast to the map… I myself visited a coaching centre where one floor was found to be additional. Along with the residential map, a coaching centre was running on the second floor, which was commercial. Their standards are slightly different, so we sealed them there… The purpose of sealing it is not to harass anyone; it's to ensure the development authority's standards are followed. Today we took action on 8 cases and will continue to take action in the times to come…” Varanasi Development Authority launched a crackdown on coaching centres, libraries, hostels, and PGs across Varanasi.
