"If there were any discrepancies, I think the producers would discuss it with me to get the most harmonious scenes. But it seems we haven't had to discuss it at all. I really enjoy acting with Kha Nhu, Quang Tuan. because when I throw the challenge, they catch it. When there's emotion and harmony, we can elevate each other," she expressed.
Van Dung's perspective on her profession.
Vân Dung shared that in the past, audiences saw her on stage and on the small screen in feisty roles. She even jokingly called herself "the ugliest woman in Vietnam." Therefore, currently, Vân Dung is not afraid to try roles with contrasting personalities, bringing something new to viewers.
"The 'Apple Lady' further revealed: "Because the audience has already been impressed by my feisty roles. But luckily, people don't hate me; in fact, they love me very much. That's what makes me have nothing to fear; when I act, I have to give it my all."
After decades in the profession, Van Dung asserts that she doesn't have specific criteria for choosing roles. Instead, the comedian humorously says, "I accept whatever role someone offers me, as long as it's good." Before each project, the actress from the Tet Comedy Show chooses to read the script beforehand to see if it suits her. She stated her viewpoint: "Since I started my career, I've played and become known to the audience through supporting roles, not leading roles. So I've never refused a role if it's a good script. For me, being able to perform for the audience to watch and appreciate is already a dream. If I always had to choose leading roles, I probably wouldn't be here now."
According to Van Dung, the fee is also an important factor. Besides passion, she also has to consider making ends meet and taking care of her family. However, the female artist believes that when she tries her best to do the job well, the remuneration from the producer will be commensurate with her contribution. "Moreover, I believe that as long as I put in the effort, the audience will not refuse to accept it," she shared.
Behind the spotlight, Van Dung leads a peaceful and private life. Her current happiness comes from seeing her son grow up and make progress in his career. Speaking further about herself, the "Grandma Apple" affirmed that she "has never shed a tear over her own experiences."
She confided, "I've only cried once in my life, and that was when my child was seriously ill. Nothing else in my life or work has ever brought me to tears. But for some reason, I can't bear to see other situations in everyday life. To say I've shed tears over my own problems is simply untrue."
The actress believes that her family circumstances shaped her into a strong and resilient woman. She further explained: "Perhaps because my family was poor and struggled in the past, and seeing my parents suffer so much, that's what forged the strength I have today. There are only two sisters in the family, so I remind myself not to be weak so that I can be a pillar of support for my family. Therefore, I think that nothing is too difficult; we can overcome it, it's just a matter of whether we want to or not."
