Russia's top security official visits India

New Delhi [India], September 8: Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev began a two-day visit to India on Tuesday, confirmed an official at the Ministry of External Affairs.
Patrushev's visit is part of high-level India-Russia Inter-Governmental consultations on Afghanistan, said an official statement.
The visit is on an invitation of India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
During his visit, the Russian official is expected to call on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
According to an official statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry, the consultations between the Russian official and Indian top leadership are a follow-up to the telephone conversation between Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Aug. 24.
The two leaders had expressed the view that it was important for the two countries to work together and instructed their senior officials to remain in touch on Afghanistan.
