Qatar Basketball Federation unveils new design shield for league c'ship

Doha [Qatar], March 28: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) on Thursday unveiled the new edition of the league shield for the championship for 2025-26 season.
At a press conference at QBF headquarters in Al Gharafa, the federation revealed the redesigned championship shield along with the gold, silver, and bronze medals, as part of a comprehensive development plan aimed at enhancing the visual identity of the league and elevating its competitive value, in line with the ongoing progress of Qatari basketball both technically and organizationally.
The event was attended by Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, Secretary-General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Director of National Teams; Ahmed Yousef Al Darwish, Assistant Secretary-General of the QBF and Chairman of the Competitions Committee; and Essam Lotfi, Technical Secretary of QBF, in addition to representatives of the nine clubs participating in the league: Al Rayyan, Al Arabi, Al Sadd, Al Ahli, Al Shamal, Al Wakrah, Al Gharafa, Qatar Club, and Al Khor.
The Basketball League Championship continues to witness wide participation and fierce competition among clubs, with historical records confirming the depth of rivalry and diversity of champions across past decades.
As the current season has reached the "playoff" stage of the semifinals, the attention turns to the identity of the 2025-26 champion, amid closely matched teams and unpredictable outcomes.
Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwariaffirmed that unveiling the new shield is part of a comprehensive strategy to develop local competitions.
He stated: "At the Qatar Basketball Federation, we are committed to continuously developing our competitions in line with global progress in the sport. Launching a new championship shield reflects our dedication to raising the value of the league, strengthening the spirit of competition among clubs, and supporting the preparation of players for the national teams."
Ahmed Yousef Al Darwish explained that adopting the new shield design came after a study aimed at presenting a modern identity.
This edition marks the 45th in the history of the championship since its launch in the 1981-1982 season, which saw Al Arabi being crowned as the first champions, beginning a long history of rivalry among Qatar's basketball giants.
Al Rayyan stand out as record holder with 18 titles, followed by Al Arabi with 10, Qatar Club with 7, while Al Sadd, Al Gharafa, Al Shamal, and the former Al Jaish Club each have won 2 titles. Al Ahli won their sole championship in 2000-01 season.
