Myanmar opens its first-ever fisheries institute

Yangon [Myanmar], December 14: Myanmar inaugurated its first-ever fisheries institute on Monday, according to the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation on Tuesday.
The Fisheries Institute (Twantay) is located in the Twantay township of the Yangon region.
From this 2022-2023 academic year beginning in December, the institute will provide a three-year diploma course in fisheries and aquaculture, the rector of the school told Xinhua on Tuesday.
Qualified students will be admitted to the fisheries and aquaculture course at the University of Yangon, she said.
In the future, more fisheries institutes will likely appear in many districts in the country, she added.
Previously, there were only fisheries training schools that conduct short courses in fisheries in Yangon region, Bago region, Mon state, Sagaing region and Ayeyarwady region, she added.
