Mr. Trump failed to dismiss two criminal cases

Apr 05, 2024

Washington [USA], April 5: Former US President Donald Trump suffered two major failures in his efforts to deflect criminal cases against him in Georgia and Florida.
Judges in the election interference case in Georgia and in the federal secret documents case on April 4 all rejected former President Trump 's request to dismiss those prosecutions, according to CNN.
Mr. Trump was prosecuted in the state of Georgia related to his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. In Florida, he was prosecuted for storing confidential documents at his home after leaving office.
In the Florida case , judge Aileen Cannon on April 4 rejected Mr. Trump's request to dismiss the case. The former president argued that he had the right to take classified or sensitive documents with him after leaving the White House.
The judge did not explain her position on Mr. Trump 's argument , but said that the defendant's lawyers did not meet the legal standard to dismiss the charges.
In this case, there are still dozens of complaints waiting for Judge Cannon to resolve, including many requests to completely dismiss the charges.
In the Georgia case , judge Scott McAfee rejected the defendant's argument that efforts to overturn the election results were protected actions under the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
Mr. Trump's side issued a statement saying it disagreed with the ruling and would consider other options.
On the prosecution side, Attorney Fani Willis said he would be ready for trial as early as August, but the judge has not yet set a trial date for Mr. Trump and the 14 other defendants in this case.
Above are two of the four criminal cases that Mr. Trump, currently a Republican presidential candidate, faces. He is expected to be tried in the first case on charges of falsifying records to hide money paid to an adult film actor. This case is being tried in New York state , scheduled for April 15.
