Iran says U.S. presence brought destruction to Afghanistan

Sep 01, 2021

Tehran (Iran), September 1: Iran's spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday that two decades of U.S. "occupation" has only brought "death and destruction to Afghanistan."
It is a historic opportunity now for Afghan leaders to end the plight of their people by ending violence and forming an inclusive government, Saeed Khatibzadeh tweeted.
He stressed that "Iran stands by the brotherly nation of Afghanistan."
The U.S. Central Command announced Monday that one day before the Aug. 31 deadline set by U.S. President Joe Biden, the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan was completed, ending 20 years of a U.S.-led invasion of the country.
The Taliban welcomed the withdrawal soon after the U.S. announcement, saying the country "became completely free and independent."
