M&As, capital injections at record high in 2019

Tokyo (Japan), Jan 14: Japanese companies were involved in a record-number of mergers, acquisitions and capital injections last year, topping 4,000 for the first time. Many of the firms saw the deals as a way of expanding their business.
Tokyo-based M&A broker Recof puts the number of deals at 4,088 at home and abroad in 2019.
That's up 6.2 percent from the previous year, and the highest since records began in 1985.
Asahi Group Holdings made the largest acquisition. The beverage-maker agreed to buy Australian beer-maker Carlton & United Breweries for about 11 billion dollars.
Recof says another reason for the increase in acquisitions is a lack of people to continue running midsized businesses after their top managers retire.
