Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 32 deaths, 1,567 cases in 24 hours

Dhaka (Bangladesh), September 19: Bangladesh has registered 32 more deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Saturday morning, taking the number of total fatalities to 4,913.
The country also logged more than 347,000 coronavirus cases with 1,567 people testing positive over the same period.
With this development, the number of all confirmed cases so far jumped to 347,372.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Saturday.
Of the 32 deceased - 25 men and 7 women - 22 were from Dhaka division, four from Mymensingh, two from Khulna, and one each from Chittagong, Barisal, Sylhet, and Rangpur divisions.
So far, 3,829 men (77.94%) and 1,048 women (22.06%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.41%.
The DGHS said 12,587 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.
As many as 13,170 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 95 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country and 1,567 new patients were confirmed.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 11.9%.
To date, 1,809,679 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 19.2% so far.
The health authorities said 2,051 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 254,386 patients - 73.23% of all infected - have made full recovery across the country.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 957,081 lives and infected 30,723,911 people across the world till Saturday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 22,357,628 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
